We’re excited to share that we are nearing completion of Mountain Ridge, a new custom residence nestled into the foothills above Boulder, Colorado. Thoughtfully embedded in the landscape, the home is both a response to the site’s history and a vision for renewal, an architecture shaped by regrowth, connection, and light.

The design takes cues from the scar left by a previously demolished structure, using that imprint as a starting point to stitch the hillside back together. Interlaced volumes create a series of courtyards and protected outdoor rooms, while a vertically zigzagging roofline follows the terrain, bringing movement and hierarchy to the form. Throughout the day, light filters deep into the interiors, creating a dynamic experience that shifts with the seasons.

As the finishing touches come together, we’re looking forward to professional photography in the coming weeks to fully capture the home’s relationship to the hillside, the quality of light, and the carefully crafted details that define the project. We can’t wait to share the final imagery soon.

Winter has a way of stripping architecture down to its essence. Color recedes, textures quiet, and light becomes the primary storyteller. In snow, form and proportion sharpen, details surface, and the relationship between building and landscape is revealed with uncommon clarity. For Studio B Architecture + Interiors, winter photography isn’t a limitation, it’s an opportunity to see our work at its most distilled.

Capturing architecture in these conditions requires a particular sensitivity to light, timing, and restraint. It’s why we continue to collaborate with photographer James Florio, whose exceptional talent lies in finding nuance within restraint. His images reveal how a project performs not only across seasons, but across moments, morning hush, falling snow, the glow of evening against a darkened sky.

Our 2025 holiday card began with a single line.

Drawn by Senior Project Architect Mike Folwell, the sketch featured on the card isn’t just seasonal artwork, it’s a window into how ideas take shape inside Studio B. Before materials, before models, before constraints or coordination, we begin with pencil and paper. It’s where architecture is stripped back to its essence: space, proportion, light, and intention.

As the year comes to a close, we’re pleased to share our Studio B Holiday Newsletter, a reflection on the people, places, and moments that shaped our work over the past year.

Earlier this month, Studio B’s own Irina participated in the Design Like a Girl event at the University of Colorado Denver, an initiative created to empower young women and nonbinary students interested in architecture, engineering, and the built environment. The event brought together practicing designers, students, and mentors for an afternoon focused on creativity, confidence-building, and the joy of making.

Hosted by CU’s College of Architecture and Planning, Design Like a Girl is more than a workshop, it’s an introduction to the possibility of seeing yourself in design. Through hands-on activities, thoughtful conversations, and one-on-one mentorship, participants explored what it means to imagine spaces, solve problems with intention, and discover their own design voice.

Irina represented Studio B as a mentor and guide, spending the day sketching, discussing studio culture, and sharing her experience transitioning from design school to professional practice. We’re proud of Irina for contributing to such a meaningful initiative and for sharing Studio B’s commitment to mentorship, education, and design excellence with the next generation of creators.

Aspen’s architectural story takes center stage in Private Aspen: Modernism in the Mountains, the latest release from Phaidon authored by Helen Thompson. Showcasing eighteen remarkable residences, the book highlights the evolution of modernism in the Rockies, and we are proud that our Conundrum Creek Residence is among those featured. Designed to harmonize luxury living with the surrounding wilderness, Conundrum Creek reflects Studio B’s commitment to architecture that balances design, nature, and mountain lifestyle.
