The Mountain Ridge project in Boulder embraces the site’s history, transforming the scar left by a previously demolished structure into an opportunity for renewal and healing. This home reweaves the hillside, integrating seamlessly with the landscape through a design that fills the voids with purposeful form and function.
The architecture employs a zigzag stitch or interlaced crosshatch pattern, extending westward into the earth and pulling eastward toward the slope. This approach creates interstitial spaces that form courtyards, blending the building with its surroundings and offering a mix of private and public outdoor areas.
The vertically zigzagging roofline enhances the home’s organic and hierarchical structure, allowing natural light to interact dynamically with each space. Drawing inspiration in their form from the Flatiron mountains beyond. Bedrooms are strategically placed in a dedicated wing, separate from the primary living area, ensuring privacy and a cohesive flow throughout the home.
Mountain Ridge is a modern interpretation of site-responsive architecture, harmonizing with Boulder’s hillside and fostering a connection between the built environment and the natural world.
