The annual recognition identifies residential architecture practices across the country whose work demonstrates design excellence while responding thoughtfully to regional context.
To be recognized by Forbes in consecutive years reinforces a principle that has guided Studio B since 1991: meaningful architecture is not created from a predetermined formula, but from a thoughtful response to place, people, and purpose.

2025 — Inaugural America’s Best-In-State Residential Architects
For Studio B, this recognition is especially meaningful. For more than three decades, our work has been rooted in the belief that architecture should belong to its place. From the mountains of Aspen to the varied landscapes of Boulder and Colorado’s Front Range, each project begins with its specific site, environment, and the people who will inhabit it.
Projects Recognized
For 2026, Forbes evaluated each firm’s overall body of work alongside a recently completed exemplary residence, considering qualities including siting and local context, architectural form and detailing, materials and craft, spatial experience, sustainability, and environmental responsiveness.
2026 | Parkside Villa
For the 2026 Best-In-State recognition, Studio B submitted Parkside Villa, a transformation of an existing 9,100-square-foot Boulder residence. Rather than starting over, the design works within the framework of the original home, using a series of precise architectural interventions to create an entirely new relationship between interior, landscape, and daily life.
The project reflects our belief that thoughtful renovation can be as transformative as building new, and that the most meaningful architecture begins by understanding what is already there.
2025 | Linden Grove
For the inaugural 2025 Best-In-State recognition, Studio B submitted Linden Grove, a modern interpretation of Boulder’s rural and agricultural vernacular. Two parallel gabled forms frame a private orchard, gardens, and pool, while the home balances openness, privacy, multigenerational living, and a strong connection to the landscape.
With a 21 kW photovoltaic system and a design centered on daylight, wellness, and energy performance, Linden Grove demonstrates how regional character and environmental responsibility can become integral parts of a modern home.
