A New Home for Our Aspen Studio
This summer marks an exciting milestone for Studio B as we settle into a new Aspen studio space.

Designing for Summer Living
Some of the most memorable moments in a home happen during summer.
A great summer home isn’t simply about larger patios or bigger sliding doors, it’s about creating a seamless relationship between indoor and outdoor living. When architecture responds thoughtfully to climate, views, and daily routines, spaces feel larger, more connected, and more enjoyable year-round.
The most successful homes blur boundaries: kitchens that extend effortlessly to outdoor dining areas, living spaces that capture mountain breezes, and shaded terraces that become natural gathering places from morning coffee through evening cocktails.
Whether designing a mountain retreat or a primary residence, we believe outdoor spaces deserve the same level of attention as the rooms inside them. When architecture embraces its setting, summer becomes part of everyday life.
ASID Crystal Award Winner
We’re honored to share that Parkside Villa has received an ASID Colorado Crystal Award for Renovation of a Single Family Home Over 9,000 Square Feet. This recognition celebrates the collaborative effort of our clients, consultants, builders, and Studio B team in transforming an existing home into a modern residence.
Featured in Dezeen: Mountain Ridge
We’re pleased to share that Mountain Ridge has been featured by Dezeen, one of the world’s leading architecture and design publications. Nestled into the Boulder foothills, the residence reflects our commitment to creating architecture that responds thoughtfully to its landscape, balancing restraint, materiality, and framed views to create a home that could exist only in this place.
On Our Nightstands
Inspiration comes from many places. This summer, members of the Studio B team are sharing books that have challenged their thinking, sparked creativity, and offered new perspectives both within and beyond the world of design.
Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keefe
Robby’s recommendation explores the origins of the opioid epidemic through the story of the Sackler family and the systems that enabled a public health crisis. While not a light read, he found it a fascinating look at how government agencies, medical professionals, corporations, and generations of decision-makers contributed to consequences that many saw coming long before they unfolded.
Wanderlust: A History of Walking by Rebecca Solnit
Mike was drawn to this exploration of walking as both a physical act and a cultural force. Connecting philosophy, landscape, urban design, and human experience, the book examines how we understand place through movement and reminds us that our relationship to the built environment begins at the scale of the human body.
The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin
Recommended by our friend Jamie Kripke, this book resonated with Drew for its belief that creativity belongs to everyone. Rather than focusing solely on artistic practice, it encourages readers to approach everyday life with curiosity, awareness, and a creative mindset, making it a source of inspiration whenever he needs a fresh perspective.
Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke
A favorite within Loryn’s book club, Yesteryear is a fast-paced satirical thriller that takes aim at the modern “tradwife” social media phenomenon. Equal parts entertaining and provocative, the novel has sparked lively discussions and strong opinions among readers, making it an ideal choice for anyone who enjoys fiction that challenges cultural narratives.
The ABC’s of Architecture by Abby S. Marx
As a new mom, Sarah has been spending plenty of time reading children’s books, and The ABC’s of Architecture has become a favorite. Thoughtfully gifted by her friend, Stephanie Kroll, the beautifully illustrated book introduces young readers to iconic buildings and architectural concepts, serving as a charming reminder that a love of design, and a curiosity about the built world, can begin at any age.
Atomic Habits by James Clear
Kyle’s pick is a modern classic on the power of small, consistent actions. His favorite takeaway comes from the chapter “Walk Slowly, but Never Backward,” a reminder that meaningful progress is rarely dramatic and that lasting growth is built through steady improvement over time.
Featured Concept: Tie House
We’re excited to share Tie House, a recently approved custom home concept at Canyon Pines.
Stretching horizontally across the hillside like a railcar set into the landscape, the design combines a crisp concrete plinth, expansive glazing, and a dark timber-clad roof to create a home deeply connected to its site.
Living spaces open toward sweeping mountain and city views, while the home’s strong horizontal expression anchors it naturally within the terrain.
Tie House reflects our ongoing exploration of architecture that is simultaneously bold, restrained, and rooted in place.
