Summer changes the way we experience a home.
Doors stay open longer. Meals move outside. Morning coffee becomes a quiet moment on the terrace, and evenings stretch into conversations around an outdoor fire. The most memorable homes don’t simply offer outdoor space, they create a seamless relationship between architecture, landscape, and everyday life.
At Studio B Architecture + Interiors, we believe outdoor living should be designed with the same care and intention as the rooms inside. Whether we’re creating a modern mountain home in Aspen, a contemporary residence in Boulder, or a retreat elsewhere in Colorado, every exterior space is considered part of the overall living experience.
Designing for summer begins long before a patio or deck is drawn. We study the site’s orientation, prevailing winds, seasonal sun angles, views, privacy, and topography. These factors shape where outdoor rooms belong, how they connect to the interior, and how they’ll be enjoyed throughout the day and across the seasons.
The most successful homes blur the line between inside and out. Kitchens flow naturally into outdoor dining spaces. Living rooms open to covered terraces that provide shade without sacrificing views. Walls of glass disappear to create uninterrupted connections between the home and the surrounding landscape, while carefully positioned overhangs provide comfort during Colorado’s warm summer months.
Projects like Blur, Panorama House, and Linden Grove each approach outdoor living differently because every client and every site asks a different question. One celebrates expansive entertaining spaces, another frames dramatic mountain vistas, while another creates quiet garden rooms that invite everyday moments outdoors. Although each solution is unique, they share the same philosophy: architecture should strengthen the relationship between people and place.
For us, outdoor living isn’t an amenity, it’s an essential part of modern residential design. When architecture responds thoughtfully to climate, landscape, and the rhythms of daily life, a home feels larger, calmer, and more connected throughout the entire year.
The best summer memories aren’t created by bigger patios or more square footage. They’re created by architecture that quietly supports the way you want to live.
