Perched on a hillside above Boulder, the residence balances privacy from the street with expansive views toward the Flatirons. Warm gray Petersen Tegl brick walls define an enclosed entry courtyard, bringing daylight into the center of the house while screening the primary living spaces from the street.
Arrival is organized as a sequence from enclosure to openness. A reflecting pool marks the approach to the main living space, where 12-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass open toward the western landscape. Brick, wood, glass, and water form a restrained material palette that continues from interior to exterior.
A long lap pool extends across the hillside, screening neighboring homes below and directing views toward the mountains and sky. More private spaces, including an elevated office and a courtyard with an outdoor shower off the primary suite, create smaller moments of retreat within the larger composition.
Throughout, the architecture uses massing, material, light, and framed views to strengthen the relationship between the house and its site.
