Iguana Lodge explores an architecture shaped by the climate, landscape, and rhythms of the Costa Rican rainforest. Conceived as a collection of elevated pavilions, the design settles lightly into the site, allowing the surrounding canopy to remain the dominant experience.
Vertical timber screens filter intense tropical light, encourage natural ventilation, and provide privacy while maintaining a constant connection to the landscape. Open-air spaces dissolve the boundary between inside and out, framing views through the trees and toward the Pacific beyond.
Rather than impose upon its setting, the architecture responds to it, embracing morning light, ocean breezes, shade, and the changing character of the rainforest throughout the day. Material, form, and orientation work together to create spaces that feel both protected and immersed in nature.
Though never realized, Iguana Lodge remains a study in the possibilities of site-driven design and a reflection of a philosophy that extends beyond any single geography: architecture that belongs to its place.
Some projects are built. Others continue to inspire.
