The headquarters for the Aspen Volunteer Fire Department and Museum is located on a prominent city-owned downtown site that enhances the identity of this important volunteer organization and strengthens its connection to the community. The exterior materials – durable and low-maintenance - consist of pre-cast concrete panels, fabricated steel, articulated brick and aluminum storefront window and door systems.

The building responds to the surrounding historic context by reinterpreting Aspen’s unique historic and modern building traditions. The 17,500 square foot program includes 4 apparatus bays, support spaces, day room, shift quarters, fitness room, administrative offices, hose drying tower and multiple use spaces for training & community meetings. A light filled double-height public exhibition space permits opportunities for displays of the Volunteer Firefighter’s history and for fire prevention education of local youth and other community members.
