Aaron Gray, AIA

Senior Project Architect

Master of Architecture

University of Colorado Denver, ‘16

Before beginning a formal career in architecture, Aaron acquired his unique skill set through a series of formative experiences and a range of educational job sites. From laying bricks during high school summers to starting his own contracting company, Aaron has developed his knowledge of architecture by understanding each level of the process, making him uniquely qualified to see his clients’ visions come to life.

Born and raised in Virginia, his family’s [many] personal home renovation projects became the foundation for his knowledge in construction. Following a degree in wildlife biology from the University of Vermont, Aaron found himself in Montana tracking the endangered Sage Grouse and joining the Building Goodness Foundation on several trips to the mountains of Haiti where he constructed kays, or homes, for the Haitian Creole community. But it was after spending summers as a raft guide on the Colorado River, that Aaron really found himself wedded to the West and he began building custom homes in Big Sky, in Crested Butte, and around Boulder. It was during this time that he obtained a Class B contractor license. Then, settling in Denver, Aaron became operations manager and designer at a digital fabrication company.

In 2016, Aaron received his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Colorado, during which time he participated in the UCD Design/Build Studio [constructing Outward Bound cabins] which received an AIA Colorado Design Excellence Award, an AIA Small Projects Award, and an ACSA Design-Build Award.

Aaron joins Studio B after building his portfolio at a notable Denver design firm, where he focused on urban infill, adaptive urban reuse, and custom detailing. His unique path has afforded him the opportunity to develop his skills in design, explore collaboration with compromise, and elevate craft within construction. He has an interest in how economic factors drive development and a deeply rooted belief that everyone’s “home” deserves thoughtful design and functional creativity.

During his free time, Aaron can be found renovating his 1890 Victorian home in Denver, skiing, fly fishing, and restomodding vintage motorcycles.
