Meadow House

The design aims to defer the architecture to the natural beauty of the rural, ranch-like setting. The project develops three interconnected volumes: one to house automobiles which is hidden with solid walls; one as a retreat for the residents which projects toward the primary view of the mountains; and one containing the public spaces which are arranged perpendicular to the view.

The simplicity of the formal arrangement allows floor to ceiling windows to be placed at specific locations to engage the vistas. The clients’ quiet and meditative lifestyle informs the use of Japanese inspired wood louvres which provide privacy from views between the public and private spaces as well as allowing a filtered, atmospheric light to enter the interior spaces.
