Pastoral Residence

Old Snowmass, Colorado / In Progress, Residential

The Pastoral House is situated on a topographical peninsula within a large working ranch of 1000-acres in Old Snowmass, Colorado. It enjoys isolated views of the Elk Mountain Range, Mount Sopris and the horizons of the ranch. The house serves as a bridge with its detached garage utilizing the natural topography situating itself within a sagebrush meadow minimizing its interruption into this pastoral landscape letting nature be the dominant design force.

Its low-profile integrates seamlessly into the land and the ample floor-to-ceiling glazing captures natural light throughout the interiors during the day. The open plan offers views in all directions with light and shadow dancing within. A deep roof overhang address the low western sun and the main level sits on a concrete plinth that anchors this level to its site.

Outdoor spaces include a pool + spa terrace that are parallel to the house, an entry/arrival court and a hilltop overlook for sunrise and sunset viewings. The house is surrounded by native wildflowers, sagebrush and the livestock of a working ranch. Construction is expected to commence in the summer of 2025.
